The harbour comprises some 1,700 metres of quays with
14 berths for fish landing, general cargo, small cruise
ships, tenders, etc. The largest can accommodate ships
of up to 280 metres LOA. |
| Airport |
Akureyri Airport, 5 km from the sea port, offers scheduled
connections to Reykjavík and other domestic destinations.
It is also an international airport with a summer service
to Greenland and charter flights to and from mainland
Europe. |
| Anchorage |
There is an excellent offshore anchorage, used mainly
by large cruise ships, 500 to 800 metres from the landing
stage. It is well sheltered with a depth of 30 metres
and a firm sea bottom. |
| Approach |
The Port of Akureyri is located at the head of the Eyjafjör?ur
on the west shore. The 60 km route from the mouth of the
fjord is deep and clearly marked and is ice-free all year
round. |
| Bunkers |
Marine fuels, lube oils, etc are available by road tanker
at all quays from Olíufélagi? hf. (Esso),
Olíuverslun Íslands hf. (Olís) and
Skeljungur hf. (Shell). |
| Cargo handling |
There are three mobile cranes, each of 40 tonnes lifting
capacity, two reach stackers of 40 tonnes capacity, and
various fork-lift trucks operated by stevedoring companies. |

The commercial centre of Akureyri is within easy walking
distance of the port. |
| Depth |
Water depth is 47 metres at the harbour entrance and
between 7.5 metres and 15 metres within the port area. |

Official Icelandic national holidays are observed. |

Akureyri is ice-free all year. |
| Light |
Due to the midnight sun, the sky is never really dark
from early June to mid-August. There is 24-hour daylight
during June and July. |

Not compulsory, but available by arrangement through
the harbour office. |

The port headquarters maintains a listening watch on
weekdays 08.00-16.00 hours on VHF Channels 12 and 16.
