Kandla Port

LOCATION : Latitude - 230 01' North and Longitude -700 13' East. The Port of Kandla is situated in the Kandla Creek and is 90 km from the mouth of Gulf of Kachchh.



KANDLA Port serves as a gateway for the West and North of India. The hinterland of the Port consists of J & K, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Gujarat and parts of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.


Permissible LOA & draughts at entrance channel:

LOA   225.55 m (740’)
Breadth No restrictions
Draughts Up to 8.14 m (30’) round the year 9.14 to 9.45 m (30’ to 31’) frequentlly. Up to 9.75 m (32’) occaionally. Up to 10.06 to 10.36 m (33’ to 34’) sometimes.


BERTHING FACILITIES

Alongside berths:
  • Cargo Jetties

At present KPT is having 8 along side dry cargo berths in straight line having length of 2,033 meters, which can accomodate 9 large size or 10/11 medium size vessels. The berths are equipped with electric level luffing cranes.

Allotment of two berths for container vessels.
4 berths for export cargo vessels.
3 berths for import cargo vessels.
1 berth for M/s. GeePee Cargo (Reserved for private participation).

  • Oil Jetties

The negotiable length of tanker at :

OJ-I & OJ-II - 1,120’ (700’ + 420’)
OJ-II & OJ-III - 1,260’ (560’ + 700’)
OJ-IV - 700’

In addition to above KPT has the following facilities :

  • Stream loading facility - 5 moorings
  • Two virtual jetties converted into permanent jetties to handle IOC/HPC’s tankers
  • Unconventional methods of handling HSD & Non-Hazardous liquid cargo through barges and dolphins.

Facilities to handle Cargo by small vessels:

  • Bunder Basin : Used for handling barges
  • Tuna Port : Situated 24 kms away, it is a Minor Port used for crafts.

Steel Floating Dry Dock of length 95 mtrs, width 20 mtrs and draft 5 mtrs accommodates vessels up to 2,500 DWT for repairs, survey of hull and underwater fittings/appendages of the Port as well as private crafts.


CHEMICAL & LIQUID HANDLING COMPLEX

  • Six Liquid Cargo Jetties.
  • Total Tankage capacity :- 6,30,248 KL (Existing); Tanks under construction - 1,41,500 KL; suitable for A, B, C, LG, NH, EO, classes of Liquid and Chemicals.
  • Chemical Storage Tank Farms near the Jetties.
  • Sophisticated pipeline network (including stainless steel pipes).
  • Gantry Loading System.


CARGO HANDLING EQUIPMENT

Shore Cranes:

  • Cargo Jetty:
    1. 3 tonnes Capacity Cranes : 9 Nos.
    2. 6 tonnes Capacity Cranes : 3 Nos.
    3. 12 tonnes Capacity Cranes : 2 Nos.
    4. 16 tonnes Capacity Cranes : 2 Nos.
    5. 5 new heavy-duty cranes, of which two crans of 12/16 MT capacity and three cranes of 20/25 MT  capacities will be added shortly.
  • Bunder Basin:
    1. 6 tonnes Capacity Cranes : 1 No.
  • Maintenance Jetty:
    1. 10 tonnes Capacity Cranes : 1 No.
Forklift:
  1. 2.5 to 5 tonnes Capacity : 9 Nos.
Payloader:
  1. 2.3 Cubic Meter : 2 Nos.
Tractors/Trailers:
  1. 10 tonnes Capacity : 2 Nos.
Weigh Bridges:
  • In Cargo Jetty
6 Nos. (4 nos.of 40 tonnes & 2 nos. of 20 tonnes capacity)

Apart from the above, port owned mobile crane equipment, heavy private equipment like 60 tonnes Kalmar are also easily available.

OFFSHORE OIL TERMINAL (OOT) - VADINAR

The Kandla Port Trust commissioned the OffShore Oil Terminal facilities in 1978 jointly with Indian Oil Corporation by providing Single Buoy Mooring (SBM) systems, each having a capacity of 10 MMTPA, which was first of its kind in India.

SBM System at Vadinar :

Two Single Buoy Moorings to handle Very Large Crude Oil Tankers (VLCC’s) for import of crude oil at Vadinar near Jamnagar with pumping capacity of 5,000 tonnes per hour and 24 million tonnes per annum. Crude is being imported for Mathura Refinery and Baroda Refinery.
