With an area of more than 7,5 million square meters, Rostock
is one of the largest Multipurpose Ports in the Baltic. The
vast capacities, modern infrastructure and accessible land transportation
make the Port of Rostock the prime Seagate on the Baltic Sea
for the new millennium.
The Seehafen Rostock Umschlagsgesellschaft mbH is certified
for ISO 9002 Standards.
Nautical Conditions
43 ship berths are available on more than 9,000 meters of
quayside
The port is equipped with modern ship handling equipment
and facilities. There are 40 cranes in the Port of Rostock,
plus Mobile cranes, three bridge cranes for bulk cargo, two
ship unloaders for coal and ore, one shiploader each for fertiliser,
sugar and grain, two pneumatic elevators for grain and foodstuff.
Where the Warnow River meets the Baltic, the Bay of Rostock
becomes an excellent shelter for seafarers.
The access route is 3,6 miles long and dredged to a depth
of 14,50 meters, permitting vessels up to 260 meters long,
40,00 meters breadth and with a draft of 13,00 meters, to
dock at the Oil and Bulk Terminals.

FERRY SERVICES
The first ferry connection was established in the Summer
of 1990 by the Danish Shipping Company GT - Link (Gedser -
Travemùnde - Link), known today as Scandlines. In 1992
the construction of a ferry terminal began at the Warnowkai.
Today, Rostock has a Ferry Terminal covering 140,000 sqm offering
five berths. One of them is also equipped to handle railcars.
An expansion of further 140,000 sqm is planned.
Last year almost 2 million passengers passed through the
Port of Rostock.
The 1.000 m long road flyover links the ferry terminal with
the A 19 Rostock - Berlin motorway and as of the end of this
year will link also to the new A 20 Rostock - Lùbeck
- Hamburg.
Bulk
Bulk goods are an important item in the service package offered
by the Port of Rostock. This includes high capacity ship unloaders,
railway wagon loaders, silos and stockpiling areas capable
for storing several hundred thousand tons of goods available
at the ore/coal and cereals/fertiliser berths for handling
these commodities. The successful combination of goods processing
and transport has greatly enhanced the economies of port operation.
Several cereal traders, a building materials contractor, a
malt factory and a coal-fueled power station are operation
in the port and at sites in the immediate vicinity.
